Non-Anesthetic Teeth Cleaning Now Being Offered at BARKTHOLOMEWS!

Okay, so I have to admit that a year ago, my vet (who we love) suggested Roo get her teeth cleaned as she had severe calculus build-up on her back molars.  I asked for a quote and it started at over $500 which was a bill I couldn’t really afford.  So I didn’t go ahead with the cleaning.  PLUS I didn’t want to Roo under anesthetic just for teeth cleaning.  About the same time, I started using NATURE’S DENTIST hoping to reverse Roo’s plaque build-up.  Fast forward to yesterday when Danielle of WAGS K-9 TEETH CLEANING set up shop in the back of ours and went to work on four dogs we had booked.  It was a test to see if the environment here at BARKTHOLOMEWS would work for her and us … which it did brilliantly.  Roo was one of the four dogs (see pics below) and I’m so happy to report her teeth look FABULOUS!  (As did Maddy’s, Angus’s and Ceilidh’s).  Danielle’s report states that Roo had “moderate to large calculus, moderate gingivitis, excessive build-up around lower incisors, and mild staining” and she said that the plaque was soft and easy to remove which is due to our using Natures’ Dentist.  We are now booking appointments in March and it is our goal to have Danielle here twice a month.  Our days will be Tuesdays and the process takes between one to one-and-a-half hours.  We’ll keep you updated here and on our FACEBOOK page (www.facebook.com/barktholomews).  Please feel free to call us for more information.  And a BIG THANK YOU to Silvana + Meika who introduced to WAGS!

BC Gets A New Holiday … And We’re Taking It!

It’s called BC Day.  Our provincial government decided we needed a break between Christmas and Easter and we here at BARKTHOLOMEWS agree.  Now it may have been a veiled attempt at getting votes or it could be because it can be a l-o-n-g stretch between holidays.  Either way, it’s being offered and we’ve decided to take advantage of the extra day off.  So … on MONDAY, FEBRUARY 11th, we will be closed.  And if all goes according to plan, a quick trip across the border may be on the agenda as we love, love, love shopping at TRADER JOE’S!  Who doesn’t?

Let’s Rock 2013

They say time flies when you’re having fun.  Well, we’re having so much fun at BARKTHOLOMEWS we can’t believe that it’s 2013 already.  We passed our 3rd year anniversary in December and are happy to report that we’ll be here for at least another three years.  And it’s all thanks to you, our customers.  We are going to keep doing what we’ve been doing and that’s working hard at being your preferred pet specialists.  The mainstay of BARKTHOLOMEWS is our pet food.  We believe that feeding our pets the best (and in our opinion that would have to be ACANA, ORIJEN, FROMM + ZIWI PEAK) will result in happy and healthy pets for many years.  Don’t get us wrong, we have access to all premium pet foods and if your pet is flourishing on a brand other than our fab four, do not worry as we will be happy to bring it in for you.  That includes brands such as CaniSource, California Natural, Innova, Solid Gold to name a few.  Secondary to our food would have to be treats and rest assured nothing but the best for our best friends.  All of our treats are either local, Canadian, American and in the case of Ziwi Peak + those tasty Addiction Meaty Bites, New Zealand (where you might recall, our friend Lucy the Wheaten Terrier located to last summer).  I cannot attest to the tasty bit but Meaty Bites are one of our bestsellers here in the store.  Well that’s it for now … we wish all of you the very best of the new year and health + happiness for you, your family and your loveable pets!  Don’t forget to “LIKE” us on FACEBOOK (www.facebook.com/barktholomews) …

Bowser Beds Rock!

This is ROXY (dare we say Lucy’s replacement?*) relaxing in her new Graphite Lattice Dutchie bed from Bowser Beds.  As her owners Ralph + Mary have so succinctly stated … “Nothing but the best for our Roxy”.  Bowser Beds are Canadian made and you all know how much we at BARKTHOLOMEWS love to purchase products made right here at home.  Limited stock is available in store and we would be happy to special order the perfect bed that not only suits your dog’s taste but yours as well (LOTS of styles and swatches to choose from!). *Note to Lucy — Lucy, you are irreplaceable and we miss you every day.  Roxy provides us with our Lucy fix and Roo loves it when she comes for visits and play dates.

And Here’s Why…….

Just look at that face…makes me smile every time I see it.

I get a number of customers asking about Lucy and here’s the update…

Lucy has now joined Peter, his fiancee Karen, and Karen’s beautiful 13-year-old daughter Frankie in New Zealand!  She was a trooper having endured a 14-hour flight to Auckland and a further two weeks in quarantine.  She’s still her exuberant self — now we’ll just have to see how she adapts to her two other roommates of the feline persuasion!

Roo misses Lucy terribly as do I.  Peter has promised to keep in touch and send Lucy updates from time-to-time which I will share with all of you.
